The problem
Government registers don’t talk to each other.
ASIC publishes company data in one register, licence data in another, banned persons in a third, and adviser registrations in a fourth. New Zealand’s Companies Office splits entity data, disqualified directors, and insolvency records across three separate systems. None link to each other. Neither does any existing compliance tool.
July 2026: New obligations
Australian accountants and lawyers must conduct risk-based customer due diligence. The standard is “reasonable steps” using “information reasonably available.” When a tool exists that cross-references eleven data sources automatically — not using it becomes harder to defend as reasonable.
